El presente libro es el resultado de la pasión y el trabajo de quince investigadores latinoamericanos adscritos a instituciones de educación superior del continente. Autores que reflejan su interés por lo que se conoce como nueva historia legal, historia de la justicia o historia socio- cultural del delito. Probablemente, esta variedad de denominaciones pierde revelacia ante las motivaciones pierden revelancia ante las motivaciones que dieron lugar a este tipo de obras vinculadas con la preocupación generada, en este caso, por el estudio de trangresiones de carácter moral y penal. Transgresiones que en estos trabajos puede ser entendida como el cruce de una frontera establecida para una acción a la habitualmente se le atribuye un carácter negativo que deviene en la estigmatización, el etiquetado o la criminalización de quienes la atraviesan.Para esta trasgresión el uso de una idea de moral hegemónica juega un papel insolayable. Particularmente cuando ha sido funcional para la identificación de niños y adolescentes de los sectores populares, prostitutas, alcohólicos, adictos a los estupefacientes y homosexuales, por sólo señalar algunos casos notables.Esta obra recoge historias de la marginación en la que han pervivido aquellos sujetos que han afrontado las "consecuencias" de su forma su vida, su orientación sexual, su edad, lugar nacimiento, el color de piel y la pobreza, convirtiéndose en los últimos en recibir un beneficio público, pero sí los primeros en ser rechazados socialmente.
